Bonjour, je recherche un livre de partitions pour jouer à 2 violons intitulé “graded course of ensemble playing” qui était avec le livre II de méthode d’apprentissage de LEOPOLD AUER. L’auriez-vous ?
Dear Sr(a):
My name is Luiz Amato and I am a violin teacher at São Paulo State University, Brazil. I am currently undertaking a Portuguese translation of the marvelous Auer’s Violin Playing as I Teach it. I was wondering if you could send me some of those beautiful pictures of his students, also those of himself, as it is on the Frederick A. Stokes Company edition. Preferably in high resolution once it will be printed. My intention is to publish it for study purpose. Could be other ones, once they don’t need to be necessarily related to the content, but to Auer himself. They would certainly make the reading a more beautiful experience for our students.
Thank you very much
Best,

Can you please send more info about your teachers. We have full list of the students of Leopold Auer from St. Petersburg Conservatory archive but not much about his legacy in the USA. We will appreciate for more information.
Thank you
I hope you will include Aleksandra Vasilevna Unkovskaya, who graduated from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory with a gold medal in the violin class of Professor Leopold Auer (1870-1875?).
After the death of her famous operatic husband in the summer of 1904, Aleksandra Vasilievna, now a widow, worked on issues of synesthesia of sound and color, interpreted in a mystical way. She was born with this gift and devoted herself to teaching it from late 19th century. Sound-to-color synesthesia or Chromesthesia is a type of synesthesia in which sound involuntarily evokes an experience of color, shape and movement. Individuals with synesthesia (sound-color) are consciously aware of this in daily life. [8]
Alexandra Vasilievna developed a system of musical education (color-sound-number), for which she received an award from the Milan Conservatory.
I also read in her biography, that while she had a very close friendship with Prof. Auer, when she tried to discuss her condition of seeing colors when she played, Prof. Auer always dismissed it, as nonsense making her feel a bit “mad”/crazy. Nevertheless, she pursued her convictions and proved herself right in the end.
I hope you will include Aleksandra Vasilevna Unkovskaya, who graduated from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory with a gold medal in the violin class of Professor Leopold Auer (1870-1875?).
In her memoirs, Aleksandra Vasilievna gave credit to her family life (in childhood and adolescence) which contributed to the formation of her abilities, the home musical soirées, the Mariinsky Theater, acquaintance with composers M.A. Balakirev, A.N. Serov, her family friends Nikolai Haller and his wife Charlotte and violin lessons with Leopold Auer. Professor Auer became very close with Aleksandra’s family and married her future husband’s cousin Nadine (Nadezhda) Pelikan (his first wife). Nadezhda was also the niece of Mikhail Azanchevsky, director of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory (1871-1876).
