My violin teacher was Sam Gelfer, music professor at Dennison University in Newark, Ohio. He was a student of both Maia Bang and Leopold Auer as a young student in New York City. Mr. Gelfer loved to talk about both “Papa Auer” , as he called him and Maia Bang. He taught using Maia Bang’s books. As I practice my violin, those old stories come back to mind as inspiration. I play violin in the Madison Community Orchestra in Madison, Wisconsin
